INDOT Kankakee Welcome Center and Rest Area Reconstruction along I-65, Jasper County, IN. Metric prepared an Additional Information (AI) environmental document to the previously approved Categorical Exclusion (CE-1) document, prepared by others, under the same Des. No. 0800272. Project elements included the installation of nearly 10 miles of new sewer and water lines to service both the northbound (NB) and southbound (SB) facilities. The NB rest area was converted to a truck-only facility, while the SB facility was reconstructed as a new signature Welcome Center. The new Welcome Center includes 78 car and 150 semi-truck parking spaces, sidewalks, a new rest area building, toilet outbuildings and permanent lighting. This AI included Agency Early Coordination, Red Flag Investigation, Full Section 106, Waters Determination/Delineation, and Information for Planning and Consultation   (IPaC). Metric worked closely with the designer and INDOT staff to meet the aggressive schedule for this project, on time and under budget.

Floyd County Bridge 51/Blackiston Mill Road Bridge, Floyd and Clark Counties, IN; After analysis of multiple alternatives, the preferred alternative realigns Blackiston Mill Rd., shifting the roadway to the north and curving to the southeast as it approaches a new bridge over Silver Creek. Three residential structures will be removed, with the relocation of 7 family groups, as a result of the project. Metric assisted INDOT, FHWA and Floyd County by completing Section 106 documentation, threatened and endangered species investigations on the buildings and bridge, environmental justice (EJ) investigations, waters delineations, public involvement, construction in a floodplain permit, and Section 401/404 permits. Due to the suspected presence of an EJ community, the environmental document was elevated from a Categorical Exclusion to an Environmental Assessment with a Finding of No Significant Impact.

KY 205 Improvements Project, Breathitt County, KY; The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) proposed improvements and reconstruction to KY 205 from East of KY 1812 to West of Peggs Fork Road, in Breathitt County, KY for a length of 2.15 miles. The KY 205 corridor serves as a connection from KY 15 to the Mountain Parkway and US 460 corridors. The majority of the KY 205 corridor has been upgraded between KY 15 and US 460, with this project proposed as the final section to be upgraded within the overall corridor. Sixteen residential structures are to be removed as part of the roadway realignment and improvement project. Metric worked with KYTC by completing archaeology and Historic Resource investigations, environmental justice investigations and interviews, Phase I hazardous waste investigations, documentation of a family cemetery, and completing a Level 3 KYTC Categorical Exclusion document.
