INDOT, Investigating Noise Impacts
Assessment & Remediation
Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contracted Metric Environmental to investigate and analyze potential noise impacts as part of their Rest Area and Truck Parking Plan generated by the modification of the existing welcome center, consisting of truck parking along I-65 in Henryville, Clark County, Indiana. Metric’s consulting services were completed in accordance with 23 CFR 772 and the INDOT Traffic Noise Policy. As part of the investigation, Metric utilized the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) approved Traffic Noise Model (TNM 2.5) program. Metric selected representative monitoring locations along the project alignment to measure existing noise levels at representative receptors within 500 ft. of the existing alignment. Metric measured existing noise levels at a representative location along the project width at the rest area based upon best judgment and the defined criteria provided by INDOT.
Metric successfully completed the data collection and modeling to assist INDOT in project modifications based on the results of the investigation. These investigations are designed to protect surrounding properties from experiencing excessive noise levels due to INDOT modifications to their properties through normal operations. The overall project approach and conclusions were approved by INDOT.
The consulting services performed by Metric were completed on time, without any safety incidents, and within budget. Metric consulted with the client at the start of the project to identify objectives and successfully met all these planned objectives as well as requirements for the I-65 Henryville Rest Area Modernization Project.
